How This Works

If it's your first time booking a session with me, we'll schedule an Introductory Session. This gives me a chance to go over your medical history with you and craft a specific treatment plan to meet your goals. This first session usually runs 1 hour and 15 minutes so that we can time to go over all your information and complete a treatment.

After your first session, we'll work out a plan for ongoing treatment if it's needed. You'll be able to book an Ongoing Massage Treatment session from that point onward.

Adjusting Massage Pressure for Pain Relief

Massage pressure matters, and jumping straight to deep tissue isn’t always helpful. Each depth of pressure offers different benefits, and I make sure to adjust to what your body needs.

New to massage therapy?

If you've never experienced a treatment from a registered massage therapist, you may have some questions or concerns. I've created a simple guide that will, hopefully, answer them.

Meet Willow Whittaker

Registered Massage Therapist

Owner of reGround Massage in Truro, Nova Scotia. My focus is pain relief; whether it’s light tissue work for chronic autoimmune relief or deeper tissue techniques for tension and injury recovery.

In my practice, massage is a slow, melting flow, starting at the fascia and working one layer at a time to warm up the muscle. I blend hands-on therapy with subtle energy work, using my natural intuition and knowledge of anatomy to encourage treatment at every layer.

Massage therapy is my second career path, built on a foundation of social work and over 18 years as a developmental services worker. This experience has shaped how I listen, to both the body and the person. Consent and communication are at the heart of my practice, built on mutual respect and trust.

reGround is a safe place for pain relief, where treatments aren’t about full-body relaxation; they’re focused on target areas; relieving pain and discomfort, helping your body find ease in a way that feels natural. I work with your breath and nervous system to release tension without force. I’m always learning, exploring the deep connection between anatomy, energy, and pain patterns.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my husband, son, and our 12-year-old pup. I’m into reading, art, and graphic design, and I’m always up for an adventure—especially exploring more of Nova Scotia.

What should I expect during my first visit?

Before your appointment, you'll need to complete your intake form online.

Do I have to completely undress during my appointment?

Your comfort is our priority. To ensure the best results from your treatment, direct skin contact is most beneficial. Please undress to your level of comfort. You will be appropriately draped throughout the session to maintain your privacy and warmth.

How often should I receive massage therapy?

The frequency of massage therapy sessions depends on your individual needs, health goals, and lifestyle. Some clients benefit from weekly sessions for chronic pain management or stress relief, while others may schedule appointments monthly or as needed for maintenance.

For chronic pain with a specific treatment goal of pain relief, I recommend every two weeks, but please feel free to adjust based on what works best for your schedule and financial means.

Do you offer full body relaxation massage?

While I don’t offer full-body relaxation massages, I focus on pain relief for specific areas in a relaxed, calming setting. Each treatment is tailored to your needs, and I work through the fascial layer to help release tension and discomfort. Sessions are designed to address key areas of the body with a gentle, focused approach.

For example, you can book a one-hour session for:

  • Back, head, neck, and shoulders (most common for everyone; helpful for thoracic spine postural issues such as hyper/hypo kyphosis of the thoracic spine, and lumbar spine issues like hyper/hypo lordosis)
  • Arms, head, neck, and shoulders or arms only (helpful for office workers, teachers, drivers, medical professionals, police officers, or those with carpal tunnel issues, and thoracic outlet syndrome)
  • Legs and feet (ideal for those on their feet most of the day, or those with conditions like plantar fasciitis, flat feet [pes planus], and high arches [pes cavus])
  • Head, neck, face, and shoulders (very relaxing; great for stress relief, TMJ, autoimmune disorders, chronic headaches, migraines, occipital neuralgia, and trigeminal neuralgia)
  • Abdominal massage with head, neck, and shoulders (beneficial for lower back pain, hip flexor pain, stress relief, IBS, constipation issues, and autoimmune disorders like Crohn's and colitis flare-ups; the washroom is conveniently close to the treatment space)
  • Back and inner armpit (ideal for scapular muscle pain, internally rotated shoulders, or shoulder discomfort)
  • Chest/Breast/Pectoralis major with head, neck, and shoulders (helpful for internally rotated shoulders, breast relief, abdominal cramps, post-breastfeeding relaxation and engorgement relief, menstrual cycle pain, thoracic spine postural issues like hyperkyphosis, and chronic healing post-breast surgeries or chest/breast reassignment surgery)

This is just a general example of the treatments I offer. If you have any questions or would like to discuss a specific focus for your session, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
